The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of October 27 – November 2, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period




Sunday, October 27th

At 3:04 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 500 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find an 82-year-old female feeling weak and dizzy. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, October 28th

At 5:09 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of Mayflower Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male experiencing general weakness after a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, October 29th

At 6:21 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 100 block of Santa Ynez Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a juvenile patient having a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy, administration of medications, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to LAC+USC Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, October 30th

At 7:59 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of East Sandra Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 28-year-old female post-seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, October 31st

At 8:22 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 20-year-old female with hip trauma after falling from a horse. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and splinting. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, November 1st

At 7:06 a.m., Engine 106, and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision in the 1100 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 26-year-old male lying on the ground, with shoulder pain, after falling asleep behind the wheel and colliding into a parked car. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Saturday, November 2nd

At 9:31 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 33-year-old male with sudden left side weakness and facial droop. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, pain management, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Breeders Cup 2019

On Friday, November 1st, and Saturday, November 2nd, the Arcadia Fire Department placed additional units into service for the 2019 Breeders Cup. This included an additional engine company, rescue ambulance, and two chief officers. One chief officer was assigned to the racetrack property and one was assigned to Arcadia Police Department’scommandpost. ArcadiaFireunitsrespondedtotwocallsforserviceduring the two-day event. Both calls required advanced life support measures and transport to local hospitals.

Strike Team Activity

During the week, units from Arcadia Fire were assigned to the Kincade Incident in Sonoma County – Engine 705 as part of Strike Team XLC 1205A and Battalion 105 and OES 343 as part of Strike Team OES 1809A. Fire crews performed mop up and perimeter control throughout the week. Both units were released from the incident on Friday, November 1st, and returned to Arcadia that evening.




Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training




During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 228 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
