The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of November 3 – November 9, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period
Sunday, November 3rd
At 4:57 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 55-year-old female exhibiting seizure-like activity. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, November 4th
At 4:22 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 68-year-old male having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy, administration of cardiac medications, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, November 5th
At 3:20 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 400 block of South Old Ranch Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a male patient having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy, administration of cardiac medications and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, November 6th
At 9:07 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 assisted Monrovia units with a vehicle into a structure traffic collision in the 800 block of East Huntington Drive, Monrovia. Fire crews arrived to find a vehicle had driven through the glass doors of a medical office lobby. The elderly driver stated he had accidently hit the gas pedal. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, November 7th
At 10:18 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle in the 1100 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a vehicle on its side and the injured 47- year-old female driver trapped inside. Firefighters stabilized the vehicle and extricated the lone occupant. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and full spinal immobilization and transported the patient to Huntington Memorial Hospital.

Friday, November 8th
At 2:58 p.m., Battalion 105, Engine 106, Engine 105, and Truck 105 responded to a smoke in a structure call in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find light smoke showing from outside the structure. Entry was made into the unattended residence and food was found burning in a cooking pot on the stove. Firefighters cooled the pot with water and moved it outdoors while also ventilating the structure. The owner arrived on scene and was counseled about the danger of leaving food cooking unattended.
Saturday, November 9th
At 5:42 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 800 block of Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 59-year-old male feeling weak and dizzy with nausea and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, neurological assessment, intravenous therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 370 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
