Fire Department Weekly Report during the week of November 17 – November 23, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of November 17 – November 23, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period




Sunday, November 17th

At 10:09 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1100 block of Louise Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female experiencing pelvic pain after a mechanical trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cervical spine assessment, neurological examination, and pain management. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, November 18th

At 10:50 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105, assisted by Monrovia Fire units, responded to a residential explosion in the 2500 block of South Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel reported several doors and windows to the location blown out and shattered and a fire to the rear of the location. A 23-year-old male found sitting on the curb with severe burns to his entire body was immediately transported by paramedics to Huntington Memorial Hospital. The fire was knocked down within 18 minutes. Los Angeles County Fire HazMat, Arcadia Police, and Arcadia Fire Investigators were summoned to the scene for investigation.

Tuesday, November 19th

At 6:17 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a person down call in the 1000 block of North Don Ricardo Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a middle-aged male down on a lawn. Investigation determined the person was asleep and not in need of medical attention.

Wednesday, November 20th

At 2:50 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 59-year-old female experiencing hip pain. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, November 21st

At 9:07 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an 80-year-old female suffering from a cardiac dysrhythmia and shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, November 22nd

At 12:45 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of North First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 50-year-old male complaining of chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including administration of cardiac medications, intravenous therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, November 23rd

At 12:59 p.m., Engine 107 responded to an electrical problem in the 800 block of North First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an electrical extension cord, attached to an outdoor nativity scene, melted and smoldering. It was determined the overheated extension cord was due to multiple electrical connections into one double gang box. The tenants were advised to use multiple electrical boxes to power the vast display of lights.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 84 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 391 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
