The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 25 – August 31, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, August 25th At 10:35 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1100 block of East Camino Real Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 41-year-old female having abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, August 26th At 12:45 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 1700 block of Highland Oaks Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female experiencing syncope. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, fluid challenge, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, August 27th At 10:30 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of East Floral Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a female patient suffering from a psychological problem. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, August 28th At 2:38 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 300 block of West Le Roy Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a patient experiencing cardiac dysrhythmia. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, August 29th At 5:47 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 60-year-old female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, fluid challenge, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, August 30th At 6:43 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 2100 block of North Canyon Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a female juvenile having abdominal pain after a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, August 31st At 11:31 a.m., Battalion 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Engine 106, and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a chemical hazard call in the 100 block of North First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a strong odor of chemicals and several patrons complaining of skin irritation after swimming in the location’s pool. Two patients, who had showered shortly after the exposure, were evaluated by paramedics but declined treatment and transport to a local hospital. Firefighters evacuated and ventilated the affected areas until deemed safe to re-enter by the L.A. County Fire Department HazMat Squad.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 496 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
Volunteer Activity During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 60 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
