Fire Department Weekly Report during the week of August 18 – August 24, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 18 – August 24, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, August 18th

At 3:29 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 400 block of Fairview Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 76-year-old female with extremely low blood pressure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, August 19th


At 6:13 p.m., Truck 105 and Battalion 105, with units from Pasadena Fire Department, responded to a traffic collision on the eastbound 210 freeway at Michillinda Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a large truck had collided with a small passenger vehicle trapping three occupants inside. Firefighters forcibly opened the doors and released the occupants. Four patients with mild to moderate injuries were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital by Pasadena Rescue ambulances.

Tuesday, August 20th

At 4:17 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of North First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 79-year-old female experiencing generalized weakness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including blood glucose level monitoring, intravenous fluids, and 12- lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, August 21st

At 10:09 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to an assault victim in the 100 block of North First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 50-year-old male with facial trauma after being assaulted. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cervical spine assessment, oxygen therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, August 22nd

At 1:00 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 00 block of North First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an 86-year-old female feeling dizzy and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, neurological assessment, intravenous therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, August 23rd

At 8:11 a.m., Engine 106 responded to a vehicle fire in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel observed facility staff using a fire extinguisher to put out a golf cart that was on fire. Firefighters put out the remaining hot spots utilizing a hose line and also used a fan to clear the office area of smoke. The cause of the fire was determined to be overcharged batteries on the golf cart.

Saturday, August 24th

At 2:53 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 600 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 20-year-old male unconscious due to excessive alcohol consumption. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 406 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 100 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
