Fire Department Weekly Report - August 8 to August 14, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 8 – 14, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, August 8 At 4:49 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a person sick in the 100 block of North Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a male in his 30s with a complaint of anxiety after he ingested THC-infused gummies. After the paramedics performed a medical evaluation on the patient, the patient refused further treatment as well as transport to the hospital. Monday, August 9 At 3:01 a.m., Truck 105 and Monrovia Squad 102 responded to a medical assist in the first block of Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 31-year-old male patient who was suffering from a stab wound to the neck and arm after an altercation. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, bandages, and glucose check. The patient was transported by Monrovia Squad 102 and Care Ambulance to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, August 10 At 2:35 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist at the intersection of Second Avenue and Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 66-year-old male patient who was experiencing an altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, August 11 At 6:08 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the 400 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. There was a 20’ x 10’ vegetation fire that was burning in light and flashy fuels. Fire personnel utilized a preconnected hose line to extinguish the fire. As the fire appeared suspicious in nature, fire personnel contacted Los Angeles County Fire Investigator and Sheriff’s Department to take a report.


Thursday, August 12 At 9:57a.m., Engine 106 responded to a report of persons trapped inside an elevator in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon investigation, fire personnel found the elevators were not working and multiple non-ambulatory persons needed assistance with getting to the ground floor. Fire personnel reset the elevator and accompanied the non-ambulatory persons via the elevator to the ground floor. The elevator service person arrived and placed the elevators out of service for further testing and repairs.

Friday, August 13 At 6:58 p.m., Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to the 600 block of Michillinda Avenue for multiple reports of explosions. Fire units arrived to find multiple police units in the area. Further investigation from firefighters revealed the explosions were related to pyrotechnics. No threat, smoke, or fire issue was found, and no injuries occurred. Saturday, August 14 At 4:08 p.m., Engine 107, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported house fire in Monrovia. Firefighters quickly deployed a hose line and extinguished the fire. No victims were found upon a search of the home. All responding Arcadia resources were released from the incident. Strike Team Activity Arcadia fire personnel continue to support the wildfires burning across the state of California. On August 11, a member of the Fire Department deployed as a Fireline EMT to the Dixie Fire. A Fireline EMT provides emergency medical services on an active fireline to personnel assigned to the incident. On August 12, four additional members and a battalion chief from Arcadia Fire Department deployed out to the Dixie Fire to relieve the existing crew on Strike Team 1840A. This is the third crew sent out to relieve our members at the Dixie Fire who have served 14 days on their deployment. Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 354 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
