Fire Department Weekly Report - August 21 – 27, 2022.

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 21 – 27, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, August 21 At 4:15 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel met with parents who stated that their infant appeared to be choking while sleeping. Paramedics assessed the infant and found the airway clear upon initial assessment. Rescue Ambulance 105 transported the patient to Los Angeles County USC for further evaluation. Monday, August 22 At 2:53 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of Sunset Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 83-year-old female who was suffering from anxiety and nausea. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, August 23 At 10:43 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 92- year-old male who was suffering from weakness and dizziness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, August 24 At 2:39 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 400 block of California Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one female patient complaining of cramping and nausea with low blood pressure. The patient experienced a syncopal episode prior to Arcadia Fire Department arriving on scene. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included intravenous access, blood pressure, and electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, August 25 At 4:47 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a traumatic injury in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one male patient with a laceration on his head. The patient experienced a fall that caused the injury. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included intravenous access, blood pressure, electrocardiogram, and wound care. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, August 26 At 11:44 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 34-year-old male who was suffering from head laceration after a trip and fall. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Health for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, August 27 At 4:30 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a single-vehicle traffic collision with the vehicle on its roof. Two victims were quickly triaged, assessed, and released to the care of Arcadia Police Department for the continued investigation of the accident.

Personnel Update Our three newest probationary firefighters completed their onboarding training this reporting period. Led by Training Captain Olivarez, this week’s training focused on truck operations which includes vehicle extrication, ventilation techniques and operation, aerial ladder operations, and truck ladder deployment. The special occasion was celebrated with another badge pinning ceremony which was held at Station 105 and attended by on duty staff, fire administration, family, and friends. The Fire Department continues to work hard training our nine probationary firefighters, and two probationary fire engineers.


Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 364 hours of training. Some of the subjects include: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
