Fire Department Weekly Report - January 16 – 22, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 16 – 22, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, January 16 At 8:19 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 400 block of Santa Clara Street for a reported assault victim. Fire Crews arrived to find a 28-year-old female patient with head injury after being attacked. Paramedics treated and transported the patient to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further treatment. Monday, January 17 At 7:45 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1000 block of Fairview Avenue for a person down. Firefighters arrived to find a 60-year-old male patient suffering from weakness due to an extended period of illness. The patient received advanced life support measures including intravenous fluids, 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, and transportation to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, January 18 At 3:55 p.m., Monrovia Fire Engine 101 and Squad 102, and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in the 300 block of Violet in the city of Monrovia. Upon arrival, Arcadia fire personnel were requested by Monrovia Fire Department to transport a patient to Arcadia Methodist Hospital. The patient was a 75-year-old female who was experiencing an altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. Wednesday, January 19 At 8:51 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 700 block of Nicholas Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 68-year-old male patient who was suffering from head pain after a mechanical fall. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, January 20 At 4:34 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of West Sierra Madre Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was experiencing shortness of breath and dizziness. The patient received advanced life support including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.


Friday, January 21

At 9:33 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a fallen tree in the 1200 block of East Camino Real Avenue. Upon further investigation, there was a large tree that was blocking one lane of traffic. Fire personnel utilized hand tools and a chainsaw to cut the branches that were blocking traffic. The debris were cleared from the street and Arcadia Public Works Department was notified of the situation.



Saturday, January 22 At 4:26 a.m., Engine 107 responded to a report of a tree into powerlines in the 2000 block of Carolwood Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a large tree in the backyard that knocked down powerlines and there was an active fire in the branches and the brush. Fire personnel extinguished the fire and secured the area around the hazard. Southern California Edison was requested to shut down the power to the electrical lines. Once the power was shut down, fire personnel utilized hand tools and foam to fully extinguish the fire.


Wind Event Friday, January 21 to Saturday, January 22 During the evening hours of Friday, January 21, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the predicted Santa Ana wind event began to increase in intensity in the local San Garbriel Valley area. Over the course of the next 12 hours, Arcadia Fire Department responded to 24 calls for service throughout the night and early morning. Fire personnel encountered downed electrical wires, trees that had fallen over, active arcing wires, and other hazardous conditions. There were no reported injuries related to the wind event.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 335 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
