Fire Department Weekly Report - 2/6 - 2/12/2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 6 – 12, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, February 6 At 3:34 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 90-year- old male patient who was suffering from back and abdominal pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, February 7 At 8:07 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a two- vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of First Avenue and Christina Street. Upon arrival, there was one patient that had left shoulder pain and left wrist pain. The patient received a full medical evaluation and refused further treatment. Arcadia Police Department remained on scene with the patient. Tuesday, February 8 At 4:05 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 900 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, there was one female patient that had a syncopal episode. The patient received a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, vital signs, and intravenous therapy. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Medical Center for further treatment.
Wednesday, February 9 At 9:52 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported electrical fire in the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find a malfunctioning electrical outlet burning. Firefighters ensured the electrical circuit was shut down and confirmed that the burning did not extend into structural members. No injuries occurred and the family was able to safely remain in their home. Thursday, February 10 At 12:39 p.m., Engine 105 responded to an animal rescue call in the 1100 block of Arcadia Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a cat wedged in between two block walls. With the cat showing signs of distress, the Fire Captain requested Urban Search and Rescue 106 to aid in the rescue. Firefighters utilized specialized cameras, rotary saws, and jack hammers to safely access and rescue the distressed feline. The cat was evaluated by The Humane Society representative and reunited with its owner.

Friday, February 11 At 4:46 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1100 block of Fourth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 29-year-old male patient who was suffering from anxiety from possible drug use. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, February 12 At 3:15 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, with units from Monrovia Fire Department, responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of Windsor Road. Upon arrival, fire units found smoke and fire coming from the structure. Fire personnel aggressively extinguished the fire and contained the fire to the building of origin. In addition, fire crews searched for any victims, ventilated the structure, and provided for firefighter safety. The incident was released to the building owner for board up and repairs.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 447 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
