Fire Department Weekly Report - 2/13 to 2/19/2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 13 – 19, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, February 13 At 2:40 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a report of multiple people trapped in an elevator at the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, there were 7 people trapped in a stalled elevator. Fire crews shut off the power supply to the elevator and then utilized a lockout kit to open the doors. Fire crews were able to safely remove the trapped occupants without injury. The elevator was tagged as out of service and a repair company was contacted to repair the elevator. Monday, February 14 At 5:01 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a two-car traffic collision on the eastbound 210 Freeway near the Santa Anita Avenue off-ramp. Upon arrival, fire crews found two vehicles that had crashed down the embankment of the freeway. One person needed extrication from his vehicle but there were no injuries. All occupants from both vehicles refused treatment and transport to the hospital. California Highway Patrol remained on scene and ordered tow trucks for both vehicles.

Tuesday, February 15 At 9:41 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 48-year- old male patient who was suffering from an altered level of consciousness and weakness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and intravenous access with medication for low blood sugar. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, February 16 At 10:15 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 300 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, there was a 78-year-old male patient with a chief complaint of shortness of breath. The patient’s breathing was labored and was speaking in one- to two-word sentences. Fire crews performed a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous therapy, nebulized albuterol, and vital signs. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for an evaluation.

Thursday, February 17 At 1:48 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 were dispatched to the 100 block of Las Flores Avenue for a report of a fire alarm activation. Upon arrival, there was light smoke showing from the street and the resident was not at home. The resident arrived on scene shortly and opened their front door. Upon entry, food was found on the stove with the burner still on. The first floor was filled with smoke but there was no active fire. Fire crews utilized their electric blower to assist with ventilation and smoke removal. The residence was ventilated, and the resident remained at home.


Friday, February 18 At 8:22 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Engine 102, Truck 105, Truck 101, Battalion 105, and

Rescue Ambulance 41 were dispatched to the 100 block of North Santa Anita Avenue for a reported commercial structure fire at Rusnak Auto Dealership. Upon arrival, fire crews found a two-car traffic collision with one car pushed onto an electrical vault that was partially involved with fire. The vehicle fire was extinguished with a 1 3⁄4” hose line after the fire attack crew confirmed that the electrical vault was de-energized. One patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for an evaluation and Arcadia Police Department remained on scene with the other driver of the vehicle.


Saturday, February 19 At 6:33 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 101, Truck 101, Squad 102, and Battalion 10 responded to a report of a traffic collision on the eastbound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a two-car traffic collision that shut down all lanes of the freeway. Fire crews provided medical treatment to the two patients that were involved in the accident. California Highway Patrol was able to clear the vehicles and reopen the freeway. Squad 102 transported one patient to Huntington Hospital for an evaluation. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 406 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.


Community Engagement On February 17, members from Arcadia Playschool visited the fire department. It was their way of showing their appreciation on Random Acts of Kindness Day. A beautiful banner was created by their students and shared with Station 105 personnel.
