Fire Department Weekly Report - 11/7/2021 to 11/13/2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of November 7 – 13, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, November 7 At 4:01 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 300 block of Huntington Drive for a reported trapped person. Fire crews arrived to find a 30-year-old female standing on a narrow edge on top of a flood control overpass. Firefighters quickly tethered her torso with a rescue strap to ensure she would not fall into the wash, while other firefighters removed the fencing and pulled her to safety. The patient was not injured and denied medical evaluation, treatment, and transport. Monday, November 8 At 9:07 a.m., Rescue Ambulance 105 responded with Sierra Madre Engine 41 to a medical assist in the 400 block of Grandview Avenue, Sierra Madre. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 80-year-old male patient who was experiencing cardiac dysrhythmia. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, medications, and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, November 9 At 3:04 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 105 and Engine 105 responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Highland Place. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 30-year-old female patient who had a complaint of neck and back pain. The patient received a full medical evaluation and refused transport to the hospital. The patient signed a waiver and remained on scene.

Wednesday, November 10

At 7:50 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 105 and Engine 105 responded to a three-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Longden Avenue. During the response, the incident was upgraded to a traffic collision with a rescue. Truck 105, Engine 106, Rescue ambulance 105, Battalion 105, and units from Monrovia Fire Department were added to the response. Fire crews found two patients involved in the accident needing extrication from the vehicles. The patients were transported to USC/ LA County Trauma Center and Huntington Trauma Center for further treatment and evaluation.

Thursday, November 11 At 4:02 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the intersection of Flamingo Way and Sixth Avenue for a report of power lines down. Fire crews arrived to find a communication line down across the intersection and utilized high voltage cutters to cut and remove the heavy-duty cable and hazard, clearing the roadway for safe travel. Friday, November 12 At 4:22 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a reported traffic collision in the 400 block of Rodell Place. Fire crews arrived to find an auto versus pedestrian accident. The 50-year-old female pedestrian was struck with debris from the accident. The patient was evaluated, treated, and released on scene.

Saturday, November 13 At 1:59 p.m., Truck 105 responded to assist a trapped person in the 600 block of Michillinda Avenue. Fire crew arrived to find a 30-year-old female patient trapped on the second story of a building that was boarded up for demolition. Firefighters utilized ladders to access the patient and escorted her down to safety. The patient had no injuries or medical complaint and was released to Arcadia Police Department for questioning. Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 367 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
