Fire Department Weekly Report 11/21 to 11/27/2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of November 21 – 27, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:


Sunday, November 21

At 12:10 a.m., Engine 107 responded to a report of smoke in the 900 block of Falling Leaf Road. Upon arrival, there was an odor of smoke and fire personnel found a house with smoke coming from the eaves. Fire personnel requested a full structure response for the incident. Truck 105, Pasadena Fire Truck 32, Sierra Madre Fire Engine 41, and Pasadena Fire Engine 37 were added to the response. Fire personnel extinguished the fire and opened the ceiling of the residence to expose the affected area. The resident was not displaced and there were no injuries during the incident. Monday, November 22 At 12:10 p.m., Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to a report of flooding at a residence in the 100 block of California Street. Upon arrival, there was water leaking from a broken toilet in the bathroom of the residence. Fire personnel were able to isolate the leak without turning off the water to the entire complex. The property owner was advised to call a plumber to prevent additional damage to the structure. Tuesday, November 23 At 5:55 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1600 block of Baldwin Avenue for a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly male who had fallen and in an altered state of consciousness. Paramedics initiated advanced life support including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, and intravenous fluids. The patient was stabilized and transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital. Wednesday, November 24 At 9:00 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to the 100 block of Fano Street for a reported gas leak inside of a structure. Fire crews arrived to find the residents evacuated. Further investigation revealed a malfunctioning gas stove. The gas to the stove was shut off and the structure was ventilated. Monitoring devices were utilized to ensure the property was safe for the residents to re-enter. Thursday, November 25 At 12:39 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Truck 105, Battalion 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 with units from Pasadena Fire Department responded to an unknown type fire at 618 Michillinda Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found light smoke coming from the parking structure. Fire crews made access to the parking garage and found a homeless encampment burning. Fire crews extinguished the fire and found no occupants within the area. Once the area was overhauled, fire crews cleared the scene. Friday, November 26 At 7:33 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 91- year-old female patient who was suffering from a stroke. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, November 27 At 8:09 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a natural gas leak in the 1800 block of Louise Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a smell of natural gas inside the house and the garage. Fire personnel utilized a multi-gas monitor to confirm there was a natural gas leak that was above safe limits. The gas was leaking from the dryer connection valve in the garage. Fire personnel shut off the gas to the house and the gas company was called to check the shut off valve. Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 295 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
