Fire Department Weekly Report 1/9/2022 -1/15/2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 9 – 15, 2022.

Sunday, January 9

At 2:25 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 105, Engine 106, Sierra Madre Fire Engine 41 and Rescue Ambulance 41, and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the 600 block of Brookside Lane in Sierra Madre. Upon arrival, fire crews reported that there was an outside fire that was extending to a storage shed. Fire crews utilized a hose line, dry chemical fire extinguishers, and hand tools to extinguish the fire. The damage to the structure was limited to one side of the building and the fire was contained to the area of origin. Fire Investigator 105 was dispatched to assist Sierra Madre Fire Department determine the cause of the fire.

Monday, January 10

At 4:29 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, and multiple units from Monrovia Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to assist with a reported explosion with multiple burn victims. Fire crews arrived to find a commercial strip mall with doors and windows blown out and one critically injured burn victim. No damage to adjacent buildings occurred.

Tuesday, January 11

At 2:37 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Orange Grove Avenue and San Carlos Road. Fire crews arrived to find a two-car traffic collision. Paramedics assessed the occupants of both vehicles. One 71-year-old female patient was treated and released on scene.

Wednesday, January 12

At 7:37 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 85-year-old male patient who was experiencing an altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, medications, and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, January 13

At 1:37 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 70-year-old female patient who was suffering from local neuro symptoms. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, January 14

At 4:56 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Engine 107, Battalion 105, and units from Monrovia Fire Department responded to an automatic aid response to a structure fire in the 800 block of West Colorado Boulevard. Upon arrival, Engine 107 was assigned to Division 2 and Truck 105 was assigned to Ventilation Group. The fire started on the first floor of the building and spread to the second floor. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire in the incipient phase of the incident. The damage to the structure was limited to the one side of the building and the fire was contained to the area of origin. Fire Investigator 101 was dispatched to determine the cause of the fire.

Saturday, January 15

At 11:40 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 2400 block of Albert Way. Upon arrival, there was a 108-year-old patient who was experiencing a hypertensive crisis. The patient received a full medical evaluation that included a 12-lead electrocardiogram and intravenous therapy. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Medical Center for medical treatment.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 424 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
