Fire Department Weekly Report

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 14 – July 20, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, July 14th
At 8:38 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a car fire in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a pickup truck with the engine compartment well involved with fire. Firefighters pulled a handline and extinguished the fire before it extended into the passenger compartment. The cause of the fire was accidental.
Monday, July 15th
At 2:33 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Lemon Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male with a head injury after a mechanical fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, intravenous therapy, and ankle immobilization. The patient was transported by private ambulance to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, July 16th
At 10:46 a.m., Engine 107, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, USAR 106, Battalion 105, and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to a possible confined
space rescue in the freeway
overpass at the westbound 210 freeway at Michillinda Avenue. Fire crews immediately determined the patient was deceased and performed a confined space rescue operation to recover the body. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office responded for transport of the deceased. The CHP is investigating.
Wednesday, July 17th
At 1:05 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 52- year-old male experiencing chest pressure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and medication therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, July 18th
At 3:00 p.m., Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance
105, Truck 105, Battalion 105, and Los Angeles County Fire responded to a multi-vehicle, multi- injury traffic collision at the intersection of South Baldwin Avenue and West Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a three-vehicle traffic accident and numerous injured individuals. After triaging the scene, a total of 10 patients, mostly children, were provided with advanced life support measures. Three patients were transported to Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center with critical injuries. An additional six patients were transported to local area hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded for investigation.
Friday, July 19th
At 11:23 a.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a fire alarm activation in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an alarm activated and a slight haze inside of a clothing store due to a refrigerant leak from the HVAC system. The store was evacuated while a HVAC repair technician extracted the remaining refrigerant from the system. Los Angeles County Health Hazardous Materials personnel responded and determined the refrigerant was not caustic; however, the store was closed for the remainder of the day while the system was repaired.
Saturday, July 20th
At 3:58 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found an 18-year- old female with lower back pain after being assaulted by her boyfriend. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 64 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 348 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
