Fire Department Weekly Report

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 21 – July 27, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, July 21st

At 8:53 p.m., Truck 105 and Battalion 105 assisted the Los Angeles County Fire Department on a structure fire in the 3700 block of Colorado Boulevard


in Pasadena. Fire units arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure.  Arcadia Fire personnel assisted with roof ventilation, portable lighting setup, and overhaul of the involved storage area. The L.A. County Fire Department remained on scene for investigation.

Monday, July 22nd

At 2:44 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 28-year-old female suffering from heat exhaustion. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose level monitoring, and administration of fluids. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, July 23rd

At 2:49 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Pasadena Truck 32, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to an electrical fire in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an electrical panel on fire in the basement of the location. Firefighters extinguished the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher and utilized a positive pressure ventilation fan to remove the smoke from the area.

Wednesday, July 24th

At 9:03 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, and Battalion 105, along with Monrovia Fire units, responded to a vegetation fire in Monrovia Canyon Park. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a small one-quarter acre grass fire. Firefighters immediately extinguished and contained the fire with no houses or structures damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation; however, fireworks were found near the site.

Thursday, July 25th

At 12:09 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 00 block of East Woodland Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 54-year-old female experiencing severe abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous fluids and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, July 26th

At 10:05 p.m., Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to a fire alarm activation in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene and began investigating the source of the alarm. Fire personnel noticed a light odor of electrical burning coming from the main electrical panel. Power was shut off to the building and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to remove residual smoke from the location. Southern California Edison representatives and an electrician responded for repairs.

Saturday, July 27th

At 10:35 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at the intersection of West Duarte Road and Holly Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 74-year-old female with chest pain after a solo traffic accident. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported by to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 386 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
