Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 13 through January 19, 2013. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period: Incident Type Count Fires: 2 EMS/Rescues: 62 Hazardous Materials: 2 Public Service Assistance: 5 Good Intent Calls: 5 False Alarms: 9 Total Incident Count: 85

Sunday, January 13  At 6:32 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of Arcadia Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from an altered mental status, post seizure activity. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, January 14  At 1:52 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Santa Clara Street. Fire crews evaluated elderly female experiencing heart dysrhythmias. The patient denied any discomfort or pain. Paramedics provided advance life support measures on scene; including 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, January 15  At 8:59 a.m., Truck 105 responded to a natural gas leak outside of a structure in the 300 block of Topaz Avenue. Fire personnel discovered an odor of natural gas in the area. Crews utilized a combustible gas detector to locate a leak in a natural gas line at the meter to the front of a residence. The Southern California Gas Company was requested to the location while the Fire Department secured the area and remained on scene until their arrival.

Wednesday, January 16  At 10:11 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South First Avenue. Fire crews evaluated a male patient who was suffering from tachycardia and chest pain. Paramedics assessed the patient and determined that he been experiencing chest for the past twelve hours. Paramedics provided advance life support measures on scene; including 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, cardiac medications, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, January 17  At 11:41 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105, with units from the Monrovia Fire Department, responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of East Huntington Drive and North First Avenue. Fire personnel discovered a two-vehicle traffic accident with one vehicle overturned. Fire crews’ extricated three patients from the over turned vehicle. All three patients were suffering from mild to moderate injuries. The patients received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. Two patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital and one patient to the University of Southern California Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, January 18  At 7:31 p.m., Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to a reported person trapped in an elevator in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews investigated the building and discovered two non-injured people stuck in a stalled elevator. Fire personnel manually lowered the elevator to the ground floor to free the trapped occupants without incident. The elevator was released to building maintenance personnel.

Saturday, January 19  At 7:11 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision in the 1100 block of North Baldwin Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated one patient suffering from mild to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 570 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.

Volunteer Weekly Activity Report During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 13 hours of volunteer activities. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with Fire Prevention Bureau and Fire Administration duties.
