On Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at 5:28 a.m., Arcadia firefighters, with units from Los Angeles County and Monrovia Fire Departments, responded to a reported vehicle fire at the City of Arcadia Public Works Services Department, located at 11800 Goldring Road.
Upon arrival, fire personnel witnessed an active vehicle fire involving a City-owned compressed natural gas street sweeper inside a carport. Firefighters immediately began suppression operations, containing the fire to the street sweeper and the structure of origin. Although the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, preliminary findings indicate that a substantial explosion occurred prior to the fire, causing damage to the street sweeper, carport structure, tools, and nearby City vehicles. The explosion is suspected to be the cause of the fire. Damage to the structure is estimated to be $100,000, along with a complete loss of the street sweeper at approximately $350,000. No injuries or loss of life were reported.
