Dana Middle School makeover

Workers were putting final touches on all the significant building and landscaping improvements at Dana Middle School Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, before classes resume Wednesday, Aug. 29. A walk around the campus Friday revealed an impressive and dramatic upgrade of the visual appeal of nearly every area of the campus, from the buildings to the courtyards to the track facing Santa Anita Avenue.

  1. the school’s name in new letters on the front of a new library building facing the parking lot on First Avenue (the previous iconic name with the painted anchor logo remains as well). That new portion of the school blends well with the recently-built joint-use gymnasium at the north end of the Dana campus.

iconic anchor monument used to be, with new trees lining the courtyard close to the overhangs

  2. the new music building on the backside of the school next to the track and near the repaved basketball courts

  3. a dynamic new grass field and modern running track.
