The Arcadia High School Chanteurs choir was recently filmed by a British TV crew for a documentary capitalizing on the popular TV series “Glee.”
Arcadia High School show choir Chanteurs rehearsing as British documentary film crew recorded watched and recorded them for a new TV show.
Choral Director Rollie Maxson says the Chanteurs and New Spirit from AHS are among only four high school show choirs in the U.S. that were filmed by London documentary film company Carbon Media Limited for a British TV program called “Glee-ful: The Story of Show Choirs.”
“The series ‘Glee’ is huge in the UK – the number one show; however, no one knows anything about show choirs there, so they are making this documentary that is due to air in April,” Maxson wrote in an e-mail.

Choir director Rollie Maxson explained further about the documentary:
“We were good subjects because Chanteurs is one of the oldest high school show choirs in the nation and New Spirit was the very first all-girl high school show choir ever.
“They filmed our rehearsals and interviewed the director and several students. (They were also scheduled to film Arcadia and other show choirs at a competition in Los Alamitos last Saturday, Feb. 27). Chanteurs placed First at their first two competitions this year. Saturday’s competition at Los Alamitos High School was the first competition of the year for New Spirit. Of 51 c top show choirs from California competing over two days, New Spirit placed 4th in the Advanced Women’s Division and Chanteurs placed 3rd in the Advanced Mixed Division.
While traveling home Saturday evening 11 of the New Spirit girls and a chaperone got a scare and a few minor scrapes when the bus in which they were riding went off the road but there were no serious injuries.
On March 19th Chanteurs and New Spirit host and perform at the Sixteenth Annual Arcadia Show Choir Invitational — “The Big Pow Wow XVI” — at 6:30 p.m. at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, 320 S. Mission St., San Gabriel.
