The Planning Commission voted 3 to 1 to adopt Resolution No. 1970 to deny Verizon’s revised proposal for a new, wireless, communication facility at The Church of the Transfiguration at 1881 S. First Avenue. The revised proposal is to house a cellular, antenna tower, and the accompanying equipment in a faux, 53-foot-tall, bell tower. Resolution No. 1970 denies Conditional Use Permit Application No. CUP 15-03, Architectural Design Review No. ADR 15-06, and Wireless Regulation Waiver Request No. W 15-01. The Waiver request is to locate the facility on a residentially-zoned property. Commissioner Thompson was the dissenting vote. He found that insufficient evidence had been provided to refute the applicant’s documentation of a significant gap in wireless service. Commissioner Chiao was absent.
