Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 21 through April 27, 2013. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 21 At 7:12 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of Gloria Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from right side weakness and slurred speech. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including Oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, April 22 At 10:59 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105, with Monrovia Engine 102 and Monrovia Truck 101, responded to a reported stove fire in the 00 block of West Palm Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a stove top fire had been extinguished by the resident. Truck 105 and Monrovia Engine 102 turned off the power to the stove top and checked for any extension. The resident was advised to contact an appliance technician for repair.

Tuesday, April 23 At 3:57 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Colorado Place and San Juan Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an 89 year old female trapped inside her car with significant passenger space intrusion. The assignment was upgraded to an extrication response and Engine 105, Engine 107, and Battalion 105 responded to the scene. Fire crews used the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the trapped woman. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; full spinal immobilization, 12 lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, and oxygen therapy. The patient met trauma center criteria and was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, April 24 At 3:17 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 were dispatched to a traffic collision in the intersection of Holly Avenue and Walnut Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a two car traffic collision involving six patients.

Another engine company was requested for additional manpower and Engine 107 responded. Fire crews assessed the patients. Four patients refused treatment and two patients were treated and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, April 25 At 5:26 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 2300 block of South Greenfield Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an 85 year old male suffering from shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including 12 lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, respiratory medication and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, April 26 At 7:05 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Winnie Way. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from severe chest pain. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, April 27 At 9:45 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 2500 block of South Second Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a female patient suffering from extreme nausea and vomiting. Paramedics performed advanced life support measures; including establishing venous access, drug therapy and cardiac monitoring. Paramedics transported the patient to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 452 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.

Volunteer Weekly Activity Report During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 13 hours of volunteer activities. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with Fire Prevention Bureau and Fire Administration duties.
