Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report Jan 12 – Jan 18, 2014: Calls for Service / Formal Investigations 940 / 124 Total Year to Date for 2014 2,024 / 289
For the period of Sunday, January 12th, through Saturday, January 18th, the Police Department responded to 940 calls for service of which 124 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, January 12: 1. At approximately 12:49 a.m., an officer was dispatched to 76 Gas Station, 102 East Huntington Drive, regarding a possible strong arm robbery. While sitting in the driver seat of his taxi cab, the victim was approached by an unknown male subject who asked him for some change. After the victim refused, the subject struck him in the face with a piece of wood and fled the location on foot. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his twenties, 6’ tall, 175 lbs., thin build, wearing a light blue short-sleeved jacket with a white shirt underneath, dark colored pants, and a black beanie.
2. At about 9:05 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Huntington Drive and Santa Clara Avenue for lane swerving. The officer discovered the driver was under the influence of marijuana. The 18-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Monday, January 13: 3. Shortly after 12:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to Motel 6, 225 Colorado Place, in reference to suspicious activity. Officers located two juvenile females hiding behind a storage box to the rear of the property. The subjects refused to identify themselves and were taken into custody for curfew violation. A records check revealed the 17-year-old female was reported missing by Fresno Police Department and the 15-year-old female was reported missing by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Both subjects were arrested and later transported to a group home for housing.
4. At approximately 2:50 p.m., an officer responded to Baldwin Stocker Elementary School, 422 West Lemon Avenue, regarding a battery report. The suspect parked his vehicle in the staff parking lot in order to pick-up his son and became upset after a volunteer directed him to move his vehicle. The suspect shoved the volunteer, causing him to fall to the ground and scrape his knee. The 44-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Tuesday, January 14: 5. Just after 1:40 p.m., an officer responded to a non-injury traffic accident at the intersection of Camino Real Avenue and Holly Avenue. The suspect driver failed to stop at the stop sign and struck another vehicle, hit a curb, spun a few times, and struck a house where it ultimately came to rest on the front lawn. An investigation revealed the 56-year-old female was speeding. She was cited in the field without incident.
6. Sometime after 11:50 p.m., unknown suspect(s) stole a wallet from a vehicle that was parked at 24 Hours Fitness, 125 North First Avenue. The victim accidentally left the doors unlocked and no witnesses were located.
Wednesday, January 15: 7. Around 12:54 a.m., an officer located a vehicle with no license plates and conducted a traffic stop on Huntington Drive near Arcadia Methodist Hospital. An investigation revealed the driver, a 37-year-old female, had expired registration and no insurance. She was also in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The passenger, a 43-year-old male, admitted to placing fraudulent registration tags on the vehicle and a records check revealed he was on parole. Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
8. At approximately 3:23 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Ralphs, 16 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding an assault with a deadly weapon report. An unknown Hispanic male hit a construction worker on the head with a metal pipe and fled the location on foot. Officers searched for the suspect, but he was not located. The victim was treated by Arcadia Fire and transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further treatment. The suspect is described as 16 to 18-years-old, 5’7” tall, clean shaven, with short black hair and a thin build.
Thursday, January 16: 9. Just after 12:50 p.m., an officer responded to Bank of America, 180 North Santa Anita Avenue, regarding a commercial burglary report. The suspect, a 22-year-old female, entered the location and attempted to cash a fraudulent check. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
10. At approximately 9:08 p.m., an officer working burglary suppression patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for no license plates in the area of Hugo Reid Drive and Baldwin Avenue. An investigation revealed the driver was never issued a license and he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. A search of his person and vehicle revealed he was in possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, burglary tools, and known stolen property. The 17-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Friday, January 17: 11. Just after midnight, an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a bicyclist for riding with no lights on Huntington Drive at Second Avenue. The officer discovered the 33-year-old male was in possession of cocaine and forged documents. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
12. Around 4:56 p.m., an officer observed a driver wearing no seat belt and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Oakhurst Lane and Colorado Boulevard. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected an odor of alcohol emitting from his breath and person and discovered the passenger, the driver’s 15-year-old nephew, was also not wearing a seat belt. An investigation revealed the 35-year-old male was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and marijuana. He was arrested, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking, and his nephew was later released to his father. The case was referred to the Department of Child and Family Services for review.
Saturday, January 18: 13. At about 3:58 p.m., an officer responded to JC Penney at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft report. The suspect concealed merchandise inside her infant’s stroller and exited the store without making payment. The 19-year-old female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. The case was forwarded to the Department of Child and Family Services for review since the baby was present during the theft.
14. Around 4:45 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a rear-end traffic collision at the intersection of Colorado Street and Colorado Place. An investigation revealed the suspect, a 43-year-old male, was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and possibly drugs with his 15-year-old nephew inside the vehicle. The juvenile was released to a family member while the other driver was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for a complaint of back and chest pain. The suspect was arrested, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking, and his case was forwarded to the Department of Child and Family Services for review.
