Fire crews arrived to find a single family dwelling well involved in fire. Suppression personnel attacked the fire, performed search and rescue operations, provided ventilation, extinguished the fire and completed salvage and overhaul procedures. The fire destroyed a bedroom, living room and kitchen, while smoke damaged the remainder of the house and its contents. The fire was caused by an electric heating pad.

Monday, January 28 At 2:55 p.m., Arcadia Fire Department responded to a hazardous materials investigation in the 100 block of Campus Drive. Los Angeles County Health Hazardous Materials Department was also requested to the scene. Upon arrival on scene, Arcadia Firefighters were directed to a science lab where a small fire involving a chemical reaction had been extinguished. The fire was the result of an experiment that required students to bring the chemical, cyclohexane, from a frozen to a liquid state through heating it in a beaker. Although cyclohexane is a high inhalation irritant, no residual effects were reported by students or instructors. Fire crews secured and evacuated the building while Hazardous Materials Investigation crews made entry into the building to identify and mitigate the chemical. They determined that the chemical had evaporated or burned so completely as to leave no residue. The classroom was deemed safe and the building was released back to the school administrators.
