On October 3, 2021, at approximately 6:39 p.m., Arcadia Police Officers responded to an apartment complex in the 400 block of E. Live Oak Avenue, regarding a disturbance between an adult male son and his elderly mother. The preliminary investigation revealed the son battered his mother during an argument. When officers attempted contact with the son at the front door of the apartment, he attacked them by throwing several knives and a hatchet at the officers. Officers were able to protect themselves from being injured by the knives and safely evacuate the occupants of the neighboring apartment units.

Because the suspect was violent and barricaded himself inside of the apartment, the Arcadia Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (S.W.A.T.) was activated and responded to assist with the incident. S.W.A.T. was able to establish communication with the son and negotiate a surrender. The son was ultimately arrested, without injury, and was booked on felony charges for P.C. 245(c) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer and P.C. 242 – Battery. The subject is being housed at the Arcadia Police Department on $70,000 bail.

The case is currently under investigation. Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact the Arcadia Police Department at (626) 574-5151, case number 21-3938.
