Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report June 27 - July 3, 2021

For the period of Sunday, June 27 through Saturday, July 3 , the Police Department responded to 1,030 calls for service, of which 104 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of some of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period. Sunday, June 27: 1. At 5:50 p.m., officers responded to Macy’s, located at 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a shoplifting report. A store employee witnessed the suspect, a 47-year-old local male transient, steal approximately $80.00 worth of merchandise before attempting to flee. The suspect was arrested, a records check revealed he also had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants, and the officer discovered he was in possession of narcotics paraphernalia. He was transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Monday, June 28: 2. At 4:20 a.m., officers responded to a residence in West Covina regarding a robbery that occurred in the 600 block of North First Avenue earlier that morning. An investigation revealed the victims were inside their vehicle trying to exit a parking lot when three armed suspects robbed them of their jewelry and cellphones. The suspects are described as threeblack males in their late 20’s, 5’6” with thin builds, and all were seen wearing hooded sweatshirts. The investigation is ongoing.


3. At 5:30 a.m., Arcadia Fire and an officer responded to the 500 block of West Longden Avenue regarding a fire. A witness reported a mattress on fire in the roadway. The incident is being investigated as an arson.


4. At 7:44 a.m., officers responded to the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 199 North Second Avenue, regarding an assault. An investigation revealed an altercation between a boyfriend and girlfriend resulted in the girlfriend pushing the male victim. The 18-year-old female from Arcadia was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.


Tuesday, June 29:

5. At 11:57 a.m., an officer responded to the 1000 block of Mayflower Avenue regarding a fraud report. The victim reported someone used his social security number to open two fraudulent credit accounts. The victim was unable to provide any suspect information.


6. At 4:14 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 400 block of Catalpa Road regarding a mail theft report. Sometime between Thursday, June 24 andFriday Jue 25, someone stole the victim’s California Real Identification Card from the mailbox. Wednesday, June 30:

7. At 7:03 a.m., an officer responded to the 700 block of Pepperglen Drive regarding a theft from vehicle report. Sometime during the previous night, someone entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and fled with their vehicle registration and insurance information.


8. At 3:45 p.m., an officer responded to Par 3 Golf Course, located at 620 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a grand theft report. An investigation revealed an unidentified suspect entered the Par 3 Pro Shop and stole a golf bag containing golf clubs. The suspect is believed to be a 37- year-old male from Hacienda Heights. The investigation is ongoing.


Thursday, July 1: 9. At 2:03 p.m., an officer responded to Denny’s, located at 7 East Huntington Drive, regarding a petty theft report. After the suspect finished his meal, he fled without paying. He is described as a Hispanic male and was last seen walking eastbound on Huntington Drive.


10. At 6:04 p.m., an officer responded to Arcadia Methodist Hospital, located at 300 West Huntington Drive, regarding a battery report. The victim, a nurse of the hospital, was treating a patient for a psychological hold when the patient punched the nurse in the face. The suspect is described as a 30-year-old female from El Monte. The investigation is ongoing.


Friday, July 2:

11. At 9:13 a.m., an officer responded to an apartment complex located in the 600 block of Fairview Avenue regarding a burglary report. The reporting party discovered someone forced open a storage unit in the parking garage and fled with various tools and a cooler.


12. At 12:09 p.m., an officer responded to the City Hall parking lot regarding a vandalism which occurred the previous day at the Westfield Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue. Surveillance footage revealed an unknown suspect jumped on the hood of the victim’s car for no apparent reason. The suspect is described as a white male,approximately 20-years-old, and was seen wearing dark colored clothing. He fled in a blue Toyota Prius.


13. At 4:56 p.m., officers and Arcadia Fire responded to the 400 block of East Santa Clara Street regarding a fire near a homeless encampment. The fire was extinguished, and it was determined that it was set intentionally and will be investigated as an arson. The Arcadia Fire Department Arson Unit will be handling the investigation.


14. At 10:43 p.m., an officer responded to Rusnak Mercedes Benz Dealership, located at 55 West Huntington Drive, regarding a burglary in progress. Surveillance footage captured the suspect inside the location. The suspect was located nearby and was determined to be in possession of endorsed checks. The 22-year-old male from Los Angeles was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
