Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report April 17th to April 23rd, 2022

For the period of Sunday, April 17th through Saturday, April 23rd, the Police Department responded to 895 calls for service, of which 115 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of some of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, April 17:
At 9:27 a.m., an officer responded to the 600 block of Santa Maria Road regarding an attempted stolen vehicle report. An officer discovered someone entered an unlocked truck and attempted to steal it. The suspect was able to move the vehicle causing it to collide with the victim’s other vehicles. The suspect left behind property that had been reported stolen from two nearby vehicle burglaries.
At 7:18 p.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a battery that happened at a residence in the 600 block of Fairview Avenue. The victim stated he was struck by his father after an argument. The suspect, a 50-year-old male from Arcadia, was unable to be located for questioning.
Monday, April 18:
3. At 9:58 a.m., an officer responded to Foothill Mini Storage, located at 431 North 2nd Avenue, regarding a commercial burglary investigation. The victim determined someone broke into his storage unit. The loss is unknown as the crime occurred sometime within the last two months.
4. At 4:52 p.m., an officer responded to Big Lots, located at 610 Las Tunas Drive, regarding a theft report. A store employee witnessed the suspect steal a large trash bin and fill it with various store products. The suspect was recognized from past encounters and was described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’7” and 250 pounds. The suspect fled in agray Kia Optima.
Tuesday, April 19:
5. At 8:22 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 500 block of East Longden Avenue regarding a burglary report. Sometime during the previous night, someone cut the lock to the front gate and stole property from multiple tenants. The investigation is pending a review of the available surveillance footage.
6. At 11:32 a.m., an officer responded to Grocery Outlet, located at 32 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a theft that had just occurred. The officer located the suspect and during a consensual search, discovered the 30-year-old male from El Monte was in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Wednesday, April 20:
7. At 1:22 a.m., an officer responded to the 800 block of West Duarte Road regarding a vandalism report. The victim stated someone caused extensive damage to his car between Tuesday, April 19th at 11:30 p.m. and Wednesday, April 20th at 1:22 a.m. The victim was unable to provide any investigative leads.
8. At 4:45 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 2200 block of Holly Avenue regarding a grand theft report. The officer determined someone stole the victim’s catalytic converter from her Toyota Prius at approximately 4:45 a.m.
Thursday, April 21:
9. At 2:54 a.m., officers responded to Unchained Bicycle Garage, located at 341 East Foothill Boulevard, regarding a burglary in progress. An investigation revealed a lone suspect stole three bicycles from the store. The suspect was located inside the business and the officers found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his possession. The 31-year-old male transient was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
10. At 12:43 p.m., an officer responded to the front counter of the Arcadia Police Department to take a grand theft report. The officer determined the victims’ stepson stole nearly $15,000.00 from their account by fraudulently depositing a small sum of money and withdrawing the rest through unauthorized transactions. The suspect, a 48-year-old local male transient, is outstanding as of April 26th.
Friday, April 22:
11. At 3:35 a.m., officers responded to Westfield Santa Anita Mall, located at 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a disturbance. The officers located the subject and discovered he was under the influence of alcohol and unable to care for himself. The 19-year-old male from La Jolla was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. While in custody, he threatened to take his own life and was transferred to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for a mental evaluation.
12. At 9:20 p.m., an officer responded to Westfield Santa Anita Mall, located at 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a vehicle burglary report. Sometime between 6:50 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. on April 22nd, an unidentified suspect smashed the victim’s car window and stole a bag and electronics. The burglary occurred in the parking lot west of Nordstrom.
Saturday, April 23:
13. At 9:51 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 1000 block of West Duarte Road regarding a fraud incident. An investigation revealed the suspect solicited a sum of $15,000.00 from the victim as a business investment. The victim gave the money to the suspect and after further investigation, discovered the agreement was a scam. The suspect is a 45-year-old female from Arcadia and the investigation is ongoing.
14. At 1:55 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 2700 block of Winthrop Avenue regarding a burglary report. The officer discovered someone broke into the home by breaking a rear window and once inside, it appears as though the suspects were living in the vacant home. The investigation is ongoing.
