Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report

For the period of Sunday, April 3rd through Saturday, April 9th, the Police Department responded to 854 calls for service, of which 115 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of some of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, April 3:
At 12:14 a.m., an officer responded to the 00 block of Cornell Drive regarding a grand theft report. The victim heard a loud grinding noise coming from outside of his house and discovered someone was in the process of removing the catalytic converter from his Honda CRV. Upon approaching the suspect, the unidentified male fled on foot, leaving his vehicle behind. A records check of the vehicle revealed the plate mounted to it had been stolen. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, with a slim build, and wearing a grey sweater and blue pants.
At 1:00 p.m., an officer responded to Motel 6, located at 225 West Colorado Boulevard, regarding a theft of vehicle incident that just occurred. An investigation revealed the suspect, a 35-year-old female transient, struck up a conversation with a hotel patron, stole her car keys, then stole her vehicle. The suspect was located nearby, arrested, and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. While conducted a search incident to arrest, the officer located a small bag of methamphetamine on her person. A records check of the arrestee also revealed she had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and was in violation of her probation.
Monday, April 4:
3. At 7:20 a.m., an officer responded to a parking lot in the 100 block of North First Avenue regarding a theft from vehicle report. The victim stated his unlocked vehicle was entered sometime during the previous night and the suspect(s) fled with his backpack and medication.
4. At 1:31 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 900 block of West Huntington Drive regarding a fraud report. The officer discovered someone had purchased more than $10,000 in fraudulent transactions using the victim’s recently opened bank account. The victim does not know how the suspect obtained her account information or their identity.
Tuesday, April 5:
5. At 9:08 a.m., an officer responded to the 700 block of Arcadia Avenue, regarding a stolen vehicle incident. Sometime during the previous night, the victim’s Kia Sportage was stolen from the front of the location. As of the date of this report, the vehicle has not been located.
6. At 10:53 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 00 block of West Pamela Road regarding a burglary report. Surveillance footage revealed a black male entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole various documents. The suspect then used the garage door opener to open the garage, where he stole a skateboard. The suspect fled in a black Toyota Camry driven by an additional suspect.
Wednesday, April 6:
7. At 11:30 a.m., an officer responded to the Westfield Santa Anita Mall, located at 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a robbery incident. An investigation revealed two suspects forcefully pushed the victim to the ground in order to steal her purse. Arcadia Fire responded to provide medical treatment to the victim. The suspect fled in a black BMW and is described as a Black male, approximately 20 to 25-years old, wearing all black clothing. The incident occurred as the victim was in the parking lot, walking to her car.
8. At 7:11 p.m., an officer responded to Arcadia Methodist Hospital, located at 300 West Huntington Drive, regarding a battery report. The officer discovered the suspect, a patient in the hospital for a possible DUI, kicked and scratched the hospital staff while trying to administer care. The suspect is a 72-year-old male from Duarte.
Thursday, April 7:
9. At 6:31 a.m., an officer responded to Walgreens, located at 253 East Foothill Boulevard, regarding a vandalism incident. The reporting party discovered the drive through pharmacy window had been smashed and various doors were open. It does not appear that the suspect(s) entered the business.
10. At 1:19 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 300 block of West Naomi Avenue regarding a fraud report. The victim was contacted by his bank alerting him that someone
had tried to access a large sum of money from his line of credit. That transaction was denied, and the suspect returned the next day to attempt the same transaction, and this was also denied. The victim placed a hold on his credit and does not have any information about the suspect.
Friday, April 8:
11. At 12:07 p.m., an officer responded to the 600 block of East Live Oak Avenue regarding a vehicle burglary report. Surveillance footage from the vehicle revealed a male suspect exited a black Chevrolet Equinox, smashed one of the windows, and fled with the victim’s fanny pack, binoculars, and other personal items.
12. At 3:11 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 00 block of West Las Flores Avenue regarding a burglary report. Upon returning from a trip, the victim discovered unknown suspect(s) had smashed the rear glass door, ransacked the home, and cut the alarm cables. The investigation is ongoing.
Saturday, April 9:
13. At 11:56 a.m., an officer responded to 180 Campus Drive regarding a grand theft report. The victim parked his vehicle in front of Arcadia High School and discovered someone stole the catalytic converter from his Toyota Tacoma. The crime occurred between the hours of 4:30 p.m. on April 8th and 11:30 a.m. on April 9th.
14. At 7:52 p.m., an officer responded to the 1100 block of Arcadia Avenue regarding a stolen vehicle report. Sometime between April 4th and April 9th, someone stole the victim’s Kia Optima. On April 10th, the vehicle was located by Long Beach Police Department. The vehicle was returned to the registered owner.
