The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of May 22 – 28, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, May 22 At 3:10 p.m., Truck 105, Engine 106, Engine 105, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, and with units from the Pasadena Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 300 block of Oxford Drive. Upon arrival, fire units found heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage. Fire personnel aggressively extinguished the fire and contained it to the room of origin. In addition, fire crews searched for any victims, ventilated the structure, and provided for firefighter safety. The incident was released to the occupant.
Monday, May 23 At 2:07 p.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Squad 102 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of West Leroy Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 88-year-old male patient who was suffering from uncontrolled bleeding from a medical device. The patient received advanced life support including bandaging to control bleeding, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with a fluid challenge, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, May 24 At 9:15 a.m., Rescue Ambulance 106 responded with Monrovia Engine 102 to a medical assist in the 500 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 35-year-old male patient who was suffering from shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, May 25 At 4:09 p.m., Truck 105 and Battalion 105 responded with the Los Angeles County Fire Department to a building collapse in the 9400 block of Las Tunas Drive in the city of Temple City. Upon arrival, Arcadia personnel were assigned to check the collapse from the roof and assess the structural damage to adjacent units. All occupants were unable to exit the structure but were uninjured. A Los Angeles County Urban Search and Rescue team arrived and stabilized the structure and gained access to the occupants. Arcadia units were then released from the incident.
Thursday, May 26 At 12:39 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, there was one male patient with a complaint of facial trauma after being assaulted. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included blood pressure check and an electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further treatment. Friday, May 27 At 11:58 a.m., Engine 105 and Pasadena Engine 37 responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on the west bound 210 Freeway at Madre Boulevard. Upon arrival, there was one vehicle that was smoking from the engine compartment. Fire personnel removed the hood of the vehicle and utilized a hose line to extinguish the fire.
Saturday, May 28 At 12:25 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 34-year- old male patient who was suffering from an altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Personnel Update The Fire Department finalized the training schedule for three new Probationary Firefighters that will begin their journey on May 31. In addition to these new hires, the Fire Department currently has two other Probationary Firefighters with less than four months on-the-job progressing through their yearlong probationary training and evaluation period. Five candidates successfully submitted applications for the upcoming Fire Engineer promotional examination. The first part of that process, the written examination, will take place on June 1.
Strike Team Deployment Our four members along with 18 other fire personnel from other agencies continue to serve the fires burning in New Mexico. Strike Team 1860F is comprised of one Arcadia Battalion Chief serving as the strike team leader, one Los Angeles County Fire Battalion Chief serving as the strike team leader trainee, and three-person crews from the Arcadia Fire Department, West Covina Fire Department, Compton Fire Department, Orange City Fire Department, and Encinitas Fire Department.
Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 383 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation , Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
