Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report week of January 27 – February 2, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 27 – February 2, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, January 27th

At 4:26 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of North Second Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a one-year-old toddler having a febrile seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, cooling measures, cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, January 28th

At 00:58 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call at 300 West Huntington Drive. Hospital staff were treating a 74-year-old female patient when it became necessary to transfer her to Huntington Memorial Hospital (HMH) for critical care treatment for a possibly lacerated spleen. Paramedics assumed care of the patient, providing advanced life support measures, until she was transferred to the care of HMH staff.

Tuesday, January 29th

At 3:15 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 81-year-old male with a blood clot in an extremity. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose level monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Wednesday, January 30th

At 5:39 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105,

and Battalion 105, along with units from Monrovia and L.A. County Fire Departments, responded to a structure fire in the 300 block of Walnut Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from a detached

 structure to the rear of the property. Fire personnel aggressively attacked the fire and contained it to the building of origin. In addition, fire crews searched for any victims and provided for firefighter safety. The incident was released to the Arcadia Fire Department’s Investigations Unit and the Arcadia Police Department. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.




Thursday, January 31st

At 12:36 p.m., Engine 105, Monrovia Squad 102, and Cole Schaefer Ambulance responded to a medical assist in the 900 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly male who had slipped off of his wheelchair and onto the ground. The uninjured patient was assisted off the floor and back to his wheelchair. He was left in the care of a family member.

Friday, February 1st

At 11:33 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 106 and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to a traffic collision in the 12000 block of Lower Azusa Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 52-year- old female experiencing chest pressure after falling asleep while driving and colliding with a power pole. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, February 2nd

At 12:31 a.m., Engine 107 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of East Laurel Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found an elderly male experiencing general weakness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported by Cole Schaefer Ambulance to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 63 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 449 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
