The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 24 – March 2, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, February 24th
At 1:01 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly male exhibiting seizure-like activity. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, February 25th
At 1:48 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 600 block of Fairview Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 60-year-old female experiencing a behavioral problem. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, February 26th
At 6:14 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Paramedic Squad 101 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 63-year-old male with a shoulder injury. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, February 27th
At 6:23 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 1700 block of Highland Oaks Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female experiencing hip pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, February 28th
At 4:20 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 11-year-old male with an eye injury. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene including saline wash and bandage. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, March 1st
At 11:53 p.m., Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a semi-truck versus disabled sedan traffic collision on the westbound 210 Freeway at Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews
arrived to find multiple patients with moderate to critical injuries. Two additional engines and three rescue ambulances were also requested. Paramedics triaged the patients then provided advanced life support measures on scene including spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, splinting, bandaging, intravenous access, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. All of the patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, March 2nd
At 10:18 p.m., Engine 106,
and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of West Last Tunas Boulevard and South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, one occupant was found requiring extrication. Truck 105, Battalion 105, and Rescue Ambulance 105 were also requested to the scene. The patient was extricated by removing the driver side door. Paramedics treated three patients at the scene. Two of the patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center and another to Methodist Hospital of Southern California.

Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 345 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
