Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report September 13-19, 2020

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 13 – 19, 2020. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, September 13

At 1:44 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision at Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive. Paramedics arrived to find one patient with a minor arm injury. This patient was treated and released on scene. Engine 105 assisted Arcadia Public Works Department with securing an involved traffic signal and clearing a tree that was down on top of the vehicle.

Monday, September 14

At 10:22 a.m., Truck 205 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist at the 700 block of Golden West Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 79-year- old male patient who was suffering from shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, September 15

At 3:05 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to the 500 block of Duarte Road to a reported person trapped in an elevator. Engine 106 arrived to find a stalled elevator car with an elderly female stuck between floors. Truck 105 arrived and coordinated lowering the stalled car to the first floor to bring her to safety and escorted her out of the elevator.

Wednesday, September 16

At 4:06 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1800 block of Louise Avenue. Engine 105 arrived to find an 86-year-old male patient suffering from chest pain. Paramedics utilized a cardiac monitoring and oxygen-related treatments on the patient. The patient was transported by family members via private automobile for additional care and treatment.

Thursday, September 17

At 6:43 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a reported traffic collision on the eastbound 210 Freeway. Engine 107 arrived and reported a two-vehicle traffic collision with a motorcyclist down. Engine 107 crew assessed a total of three patients for injuries, with one patient in critical condition. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for traumatic injuries.




Friday, September 18

At 5:01 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported electrical fire inside of a residence. Engine 106 arrived and found residents had evacuated but did not see smoke or fire. With further investigation, Engine 106 found a small electrical fire inside a wall. Engine 106 and Truck 105 remained on-scene to ensure extinguishment, secure the electrical circuit, and conduct a fire cause investigation.

Saturday, September 19

At 8:15 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at 200 block of Colorado Place. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 56-year-old male patient who was suffering from chest pain. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, medications, and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Strike Team Activity and Bobcat Incident

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had three engines that were part of three different strike teams assigned to the Bobcat Incident.

Engine 106 was part of Strike Team XLC 1203. Engine 706 was part of Strike Team 1206. OES Engine 343 was part of OES 1841A. All were assigned to the foothills above Arcadia and Monrovia, as the Bobcat Incident burned through the area.

We also had personnel staffing, additional apparatus, and had command staff imbedded within the Bobcat Incident as a structure protection group supervisor, a unified incident commander, and a deputy incident commander.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 314 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
