The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of November 24 – 30, 2024. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:
Sunday, November 24
At 7:32 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a
pedestrian versus vehicle incident at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and North
First Avenue. Upon arrival, there was one patient with a chief complaint of multi-system
traumatic injuries. The patient received a full medical evaluation and was transported to
Huntington Hospital for further treatment.
Monday, November 25
At 7:02 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 300 block of
Longden Avenue for a person down. Fire suppression personnel arrived to find a 76-year-
old female suffering from abdominal pain. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia
Hospital for further treatment.
Tuesday, November 26
At 9:04 p.m., Truck 105 responded to the 1100 block of Bungalow Place for a reported
fire alarm activation. Fire suppression personnel arrived to find residents outside of a
residential home. Upon further investigation, the family had turned the heater on for the
first time this season causing the alarm activation. No smoke or fire was found, air
monitoring confirmed the air in the house was safe, and the residents were able to return
to the home.
Wednesday, November 27
At 11:29 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident
in the 600 block of Sunset Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire suppression personnel found a
27-year-old male with an altered level of consciousness. The patient received a full
medical evaluation and was determined to be suffering from an overdose. Paramedics
quickly administered Narcan to reverse the effects of the overdose and obtained an
electrocardiogram, intravenous access, and a blood glucose check. The patient was
transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further treatment.
Thursday, November 28
At 11:44 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105
responded to a reported commercial building fire in the 900 block of West Huntington
Drive in Monrovia. Upon arrival, fire suppression personnel met with the staff of a ten-
story hotel reporting smoke inside the elevator penthouse. Engine 105 crew assisted with
water supply; Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 crews assisted with positive
pressure ventilation; Battalion 105 was assigned as Safety Officer and provided the
incident commander with any identified safety hazards. Fire suppression personnel
located a malfunctioning elevator power unit and isolated the issue. The property
management company was notified, and elevator technicians were advised to repair the
unit prior to returning it to service.
Friday, November 29
At 6:44 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a report of people trapped inside
an elevator in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, seven people were
trapped inside an elevator that was stuck between the first and second floors. Fire
suppression personnel reset the system, lowered the elevator to the first floor, and used
an elevator kit to safely extricate the passengers. There were no injuries associated with
this incident and the elevator was placed out of service.
Saturday, November 30
At 11:35 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of an outside fire in the 2000 block of
South Sixth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire suppression personnel found various smolderingmaterials in the backyard of a residence. After extinguishing the fire and upon further investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused by unpermitted electrical wiring.
The burned solar panels were also back feeding the Southern California Edison (SCE)
service line. A city inspector and a SCE employee responded to the scene, power to the
house was disconnected, and the property was red tagged (A red tag on a home is usually placed by local officials and means that the property is unsafe to occupy and is considered uninhabitable.)
