The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 20 – January 26, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, January 20th At 10:17 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1100 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 31-year-old male having a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, January 21st At 12:29 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to an elevator rescue in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found nine occupants trapped in a stalled elevator of a six story building. Fire crews used elevator lockout tools to pry open the doors and release the occupants. Further investigation determined a second elevator was also inoperable. Eight additional people were assisted down the stairs from the upper floors to the ground floor. Elevator technicians responded to the scene to repair the elevators. A total of 17 people were assisted during this incident with no injuries reported.
Tuesday, January 22nd At 6:15 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 52-year-old male feeling dizzy due to hypotension. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, January 23rd At 8:03 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female experiencing a behavioral episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, January 24th At 7:49 p.m., Engine 107 responded to an assist the invalid call in the 100 block of West Foothill Boulevard. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly male on the ground and unable to lift himself to a seated position. After evaluating the patient, it was determined he was in need of medical attention and crews summoned paramedics. Truck 105 and Monrovia Squad 101 also responded to the location. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, January 25th At 10:18 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 700 block of Val Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly male having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, January 26th At 2:54 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of North Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 65-year-old female with a belt wrapped around her left arm, as a tourniquet, to help slow the bleed of a compound fracture suffered after a fall. Bystanders applied the belt after learning the patient had a medical condition preventing her from clotting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including applying a medical grade tourniquet, oxygen therapy, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 104 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 483 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
