Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for week of February 3 – February 9, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 3 – February 9, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, February 3rd

At 2:21 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 57-year-old male experiencing severe abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, pain medication, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, February 4th

At 1:08 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 900 block of South Tenth Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 62-year-old male who had a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, neurological assessment, intravenous therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, February 5th

At 9:01 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to an auto versus pedestrian traffic accident at the intersection of West Huntington Drive and South Fifth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 82-year-old male with extremity pain after being struck by a vehicle at low speed. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, wound care, and cervical spinal assessment. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, February 6th

At 9:20 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1100 block of Arcadia Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 75-year-old male in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, February 7th

At 3:54 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue in the 600 block of Las Tunas Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found several occupants trapped inside of a malfunctioning elevator. The occupants were contacted and confirmed none was in need of medical attention. Fire crews made access to the elevator room and reset the system. Upon reset, the elevator began functioning normal and the occupants were able to exit the elevator without incident.




Friday, February 8th

At 12:28 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 600 block of Sharon Road. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, February 9th

At 4:42 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 900 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 53-year- old male in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, advanced airway placement, oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. Attempts to revive the patient were successful and return of spontaneous circulation was achieved. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 100 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 360 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
