Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for week of December 30, 2018 – January 5, 2019.

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of December 30, 2018 – January 5, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, December 30th

At 3:14 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 70-year-old male in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, advanced airway placement, oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. Attempts to revive the patient were unsuccessful and paramedics followed local protocol for pronouncement of death. The incident was released to the Arcadia Police Department.

Monday, December 31st

At 11:38 a.m., Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision at the 100 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a two vehicle traffic accident with an overturned van and a male occupant with minor injuries. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cerebral spinal assessment and a full physical examination. The patient refused further medical care and declined transport to a local hospital.

Tuesday, January 1st

At 4:27 p.m., Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of South Santa Anita Avenue and East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a single vehicle rollover traffic accident and an injured occupant. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cerebral spinal assessment and a full physical examination. The patient refused further medical care and declined transport to a local hospital.

Wednesday, January 2nd

At 3:04 p.m., Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to an agency assist call in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Methodist Hospital of Southern California employees had requested assistance with transporting a 3-month-old infant, who was suffering seizures, from their Emergency Room Department to Children’s Hospital of Orange County via a helicopter. Fire crews contacted the Santa Anita Park security and Arcadia Police Department to assist with establishing a temporary helicopter landing zone. Engine 106 secured and staffed the landing zone. Rescue Ambulance 105 transported the patient and critical care team from the hospital to the landing zone. Mercy Air Ambulance transported the patient and critical care team to Children’s Hospital of Orange County.




Thursday, January 3rd

At 9:53 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 1100 block of West Okoboji Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an 89-year-old female having a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, January 4th

At 7:28 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of Balboa Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly male having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose level monitoring, and a breathing treatment. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, January 5th

At 7:23 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 700 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find an 87-year-old female having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose level monitoring, a breathing treatment, and medication. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 52 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 313 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
