Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for the week of March 3 – March 9, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 3 – March 9, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, March 3rd

At 2:51 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist at the intersection of West Colorado Street and South Michillinda Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 25-year-old male nauseous and vomiting after excessive alcohol consumption. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, March 4th

At 10:49 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 00 block of Lucille Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly male in an altered level of consciousness after suffering a head injury. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, March 5th

At 7:05 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Naomi Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 71-year-old female who had experienced a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, March 6th

At 12:37 a.m., Truck 105, Engine 107, Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105, assisted units from the Monrovia Fire Department responding to a structure fire in the 700 block of West Colorado Boulevard, Monrovia. Upon arrival, fire units found a completely involved two-story structure. Fire personnel aggressively attacked and extinguished the fire containing it to the

 building of origin and one adjacent structure.  In addition, fire crews searched for any victims, protected exposures, ventilated the adjacent structure, and provided for firefighter safety. The incident remains under investigation.




Thursday, March 7th

At 7:48 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 100 block of West Floral Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an 82-year-old male who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, orthostatic tests, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, March 8th

At 11:33 p.m., Engine 106, and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of West Le Roy Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 10- year-old female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, March 9th

At 5:52 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 400 block of East Santa Clara Street. Fire crews arrived to find a 28-year-old male experiencing anxiety after ingesting crystal meth. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 116 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 419 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
