The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 6 – January 12, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, January 6th

At 10:15 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of South Sunset Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly female having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, January 7th

At 1:29 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 100 block of Naomi Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 46-year-old female who experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, orthostatic tests, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient refused further treatment and declined transport to a local hospital. She was left in the care of a family member.

Tuesday, January 8th

At 5:44 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of East Rodell Place. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly male in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics followed local protocols and determined the patient had been deceased for an extended period of time. The patient was pronounced dead at the scene and the incident was released to Arcadia Police Department.

Wednesday, January 9th

At 1:42 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 700 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 90-year-old female experiencing nausea. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, January 10th

At 7:41 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1100 block of Columbia Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male patient experiencing leg pain after a mechanical trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, cervical spine assessment, and pain management. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, January 11th

At 8:06 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 100 block of East Colorado Boulevard. Fire crews arrived to find a 30-year-old male with hand trauma after a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and pain medication. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, January 12th

At 8:07 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 19- year-old male suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including bandaging, oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 431 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
