The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 13 – January 19, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, January 13th
At 4:41 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of Windsor Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly female experiencing hip pain after a mechanical trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, cervical spine assessment, and pain management. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, January 14th
At 10:38 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 10-month-old infant having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, January 15th
At 8:04 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of Eldorado Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly female experiencing severe abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, January 16th
At 5:44 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a pole fire at East Duarte Road and South First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a Southern California Edison (SCE) utility pole on fire with multiple service lines burning and some downed and lying across the road. Fire and Police personnel secured the area until arrival of SCE repair crews.
At 9:02 a.m., Battalion 105, along with Sierra Madre Engine 41 and Los Angeles County Engine 66, were dispatched to a structure fire in the 300 block of North Lima Street in Sierra Madre. Sierra Madre Fire arrived on scene and requested mutual aid to assist in extinguishing the fire. Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105,


and Truck 105 responded along with units from Monrovia Fire and Pasadena Fire. Arcadia personnel performed vertical ventilation, conducted a search of the residence, performed incident management, and assisted with extinguishment. Once the fire was overhauled, Arcadia Fire units were released.
Friday, January 18th
At 6:56 p.m., Truck 105 responded to a police assist call in the 200 block of San Antonio Road. Arcadia Police requested the use of an extension ladder to access a second floor window to conduct a welfare check. Truck 105 utilized a 24-foot extension ladder to access the window. Fire crews were released from the scene after police completed their search of the residence.
Saturday, January 19th
At 9:01 a.m., Engine 106 responded to a reported carbon monoxide (CO) alarm in the 1100 block of Fairview Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a CO detector in alarm. The occupants evacuated the residence while firefighters utilized a 4-gas monitor to detect the presence of CO inside the structure. Carbon monoxide was detected in several rooms. Fire personnel ventilated the structure with an electrical fan and shut down natural gas to the residence. Southern California Gas Company also responded to assist in determining the source of the carbon monoxide. The occupants had no medical complaints and declined medical care.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 56 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 346 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
