The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of May 12 – May 18, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, May 12th
At 4:15 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 with units from Los Angeles County and Pasadena Fire Departments responded to a house fire in the 400 block of Armada Road. Fire crews arrived to find an oven fire already out. Fire personnel used a thermal imaging camera to determine the extent of the fire. Preliminary investigation indicates the cause of the fire was human-caused and accidental in nature.
Monday, May 13th
At 7:59 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision at the
intersection of East Live Oak Avenue and South Sixth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two- vehicle traffic accident with a 32-year-old male occupant requiring extrication. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full-spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, intravenous access, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported
to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. No other injuries were reported.
Tuesday, May 14th
At 2:59 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to an auto verses pedestrian accident in the 00 block of West Perkins Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 65-year-old male with lower extremity pain after accidently being pinned between his vehicle and garage door. Family members freed the patient and assisted him into the home prior to calling the Fire Department. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and full-spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, May 15th
At 1:21 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Paramedic Squad 102 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 51-year-old female having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy, cardiac medications, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported by Care Ambulance to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, May 16th
At 6:36 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 100 block of Magna Vista Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, May 17th
At 3:24 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 74-year-old male experiencing syncope. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, May 18th
At 6:45 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 41-year-old female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous therapy, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 76 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 537 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
