Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report during the week of March 31 – April 6, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 31 – April 6, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, March 31st

At 1:48 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 47-year-old male having an anxiety attack. Personnel were able to calm the patient who eventually refused transport to a local hospital.

Monday, April 1st

At 2:01 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Battalion 105 and Monrovia Truck 101 responded to an appliance fire in the 1300 block of North Rancho Road. Fire crews arrived to find an oven fire that was extinguished on arrival. Fire crews checked for any fire extension and used a smoke blower to remove residual smoke from the residence.




Tuesday, April 2nd

At 5:25 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Engine 106, Battalion 105, and Monrovia Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1200 block of South Sixth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found light smoke showing in the rear yard and high voltage power down. The power lines had arced, caught fire, and began burning trees and vegetation. Southern California Edison responded


and shut down power enabling crews to extinguish the fire without being electrocuted. Investigation determined the cause of the arcing power lines was caused by a vehicle that knocked down a power pole on South Fifth Avenue. There were no injuries and fire damage was limited to plants, trees, and vegetation.




Wednesday, April 3rd

At 12:48 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 400 block of North Rolyn Place. Fire crews arrived at a local birthing center to find a newborn infant with low oxygen saturation. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.




Thursday, April 4th

At 9:19 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1700 block of Orangewood Lane. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 82-year-old male in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose level monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, April 5th

At 8:02 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female experiencing abdominal pain and nausea. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose level monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, April 6th

At 12:44 p.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Squad 101, with Care Ambulance, responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 50-year-old male exhibiting seizure-like activity. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 112 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 367 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
