The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 17 – March 23, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, March 17th
At 6:38 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to an Elevator Rescue in the 400 block of Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one person trapped between floors in a malfunctioning elevator. Fire personnel made contact with the trapped person and confirmed that there were no injuries or medical emergencies. Fire personnel turned off power to the elevator and reset the system, causing the doors to open, and safely extricated the victim. The elevator was locked and placed out of service for repair and maintenance.
Monday, March 18th
At 12:17 p.m., Truck 105 and Monrovia Squad 102 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 89-year-old female experiencing facial pain suffered from a fall. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene; including bandaging, blood glucose testing, and 12- lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, March 19th
At 10:46 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 73- year-old male who was suffering from shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, March 20th
At 9:12 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Paramedic Rescue 106, Battalion 105, with Pasadena Truck 32, responded on a residential structure fire in the 800 block of Kingsley Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found indicators of a recent fire in a detached two-car garage of a single-family dwelling. Fire crews began the overhaul process and confirmed that the fire was contained to the structure of origin. A fire investigator was requested and the fire was determined to be caused by an electrical issue.
Thursday, March 21st
At 8:11 a.m., Rescue Ambulance 106 and Sierra Madre Engine 41 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of North Grove Street in the City of Sierra Madre. Fire crews arrived to find an 85-year-old female suffering from dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, March 22nd
At 5:34 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of West Hampton Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 95-year-old female suffering from chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, electrocardiogram, administration of cardiac medications, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, March 23rd
At 4:35 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 500 Block of Campesina Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 59-year-old male suffering from chest pain. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene including; 12 lead cardiac monitoring, medications, and glucose check. During transport, the patient went into cardiac arrest and paramedics used electrical shock and cardiac medications to restart his heart. The patient was alert and talking upon arrival at Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department produced a total of 148 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 461 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
