The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 10 – March 16, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, March 10th
At 11:51 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of North Santa Maria Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 24-year-old female unable to sleep. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene, including calming the patient. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.
Monday, March 11th
At 8:12 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 67-year- old female experiencing an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures; including 12 lead cardiac monitoring, glucose level monitoring, and establishing venous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, March 12th
At 4:35 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a carbon monoxide alarm in the 600 block of West Naomi Avenue. Engine 106 arrived on scene and met with the resident. It was determined that the activation occurred due to low batteries in the alarm. Fire personnel assisted the resident with replacing the batteries.
Wednesday, March 13th
At 3:36 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of Arcadia Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find an 81-year-old male patient who experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures; including cardiac monitoring, orthostatic tests, and glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, March 14th
At 5:45 p.m., Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105, responded to a traffic collision on West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two- vehicle accident with one person entrapped within a vehicle. Crews evaluated an altered male patient experiencing head pain. Another patient was extricated from the vehicle, placed in C-collar to immobilize the head and neck, and transported to Huntington Memorial Trauma Center for further evaluation and care.
Friday, March 15th
At 5:06 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Paramedic Squad 102 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Cortez Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 64-year-old female experiencing chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, cardiac medications, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.
Saturday, March 16th
At 12:27 p.m., Engine 105 and Recue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 5700 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 76-year-old male feeling weak and dizzy. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department produced a total of 310 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 301 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
