The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 9 – June 15, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, June 9th
At 7:08 p.m., Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to a flooded condition in the 00 block of East Las Flores Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found water seeping out of a residence. Investigation revealed a fire sprinkler flowing water inside of the structure. Fire crews turned off the water source to the location and
began removing standing water inside the residence. Additionally, the sprinkler head was replaced and the system recharged with water. The incident was released to a responsible party.
Monday, June 10th
At 5:23 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of Altura Road. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose level monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, June 11th
At 1:14 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 900 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 56- year-old male who had been having chest pain and difficulty breathing over a three-day period. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and medication therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, June 12th
At 7:42 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a
medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 76-year-old male with a head injury after a mechanical fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, intravenous therapy, and ankle immobilization. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, June 13th
At 6:52 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of West Palm Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly female having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, June 14th
At 5:56 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a vegetation fire in the 5400 block of Peck Road. Fire crews arrived to find a small mulch pile on fire in an open area. Firefighters immediately extinguished and contained the fire. No structures were damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Saturday, June 15th
At 9:41 a.m., Truck 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105, assisted by units from Pasadena Fire Department, responded to a structure fire in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire units reported smoke visible throughout a restaurant. Fire personnel made entry and found a grease fire in a range top. Firefighters quickly extinguished and contained the fire and ventilated the structure. The incident was released to the business owner and the Los Angeles County Public Health Department.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 56 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 450 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
