Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report during the week of June 2 – June 8, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 2 – June 8, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, June 2nd

At 12:21 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to an animal problem in the 1200 block of South Sixth Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a father and his two children with bee stings after attempting to enter a vehicle with a swarm of bees nearby. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene; however, the patients declined further treatment and transport to a hospital.

Monday, June 3rd

At 4:20 p.m., Engine 106, Truck 105, and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a carbon monoxide alarm call in the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an apartment full of smoke from burning charcoal. Fire crews used a positive pressure ventilation fan to remove smoke from the structure.

Tuesday, June 4th

At 8:48 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 700 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female experiencing dizziness after a trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including neurological assessment, intravenous therapy, and 12- lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, June 5th

At 7:17 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a report of arching wires in the 1000 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire crews found a mylar balloon stuck in a power pole. No active arcing was witnessed while fire personnel were on scene. SCE responded to the location to remove the hazard.

Thursday, June 6th

At 8:05 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call at the intersection of North Baldwin Avenue and West Foothill Boulevard. Fire crews arrived to find a 56-year-old female driver experiencing a sudden onset of abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, pain management, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, June 7th

At 3:59 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 67-year- old male experiencing severe abdominal pain after binge drinking whiskey. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Saturday, June 8th

At 5:39 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 105, Truck 105, Battalion 105, and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to a smoke in a structure call in the 400 block of West Le Roy Avenue. Arriving fire crews reported no smoke or fire showing from the street. Further investigation revealed an empty food pot burning on the stove. The pot was removed to the outdoors and the stove turned off. Fire personnel confirmed there was no extension, nor heat sources, around the stove. The house was cleared by ventilation and secured.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 60 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 375 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.

Community Outreach

On June 3rd – 5th, the Arcadia Fire Department and staff from Methodist Hospital of Southern California took park in a Sidewalk CPR event at Arcadia High School. Approximately 415 freshman learned hands only CPR as part of their physical education final exam. This was the fourth year that all three groups partnered to provide CPR training to the students.
