Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report During the week of April 7 – April 13, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 7 – April 13, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 7th At 6:29 p.m., fire personnel responded to a still alarm at Station 106 located at 630 South Baldwin Avenue. The still alarm was prompted by a resident stopping by the station and requesting assistance with removing a ring stuck on her finger. Personnel from Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 assessed the extremity and successfully removed the ring with a specialized cutter. The patient declined any medical attention and was released at the scene.

Monday, April 8th At 11:20 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105, along with Monrovia Paramedic Squad 102 and Care Ambulance responded to an overturned vehicle on Santa Anita Avenue at the 210 Freeway. Fire crews arrived to find a two-vehicle traffic accident with one vehicle on its roof. Fire personnel stabilized the vehicle and used the Jaws of Life to remove a 48-year-old male with neck and back pain. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene including spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, April 9th At 3:39 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 2000 block of South Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly female experiencing a behavioral issue. Paramedics were able to calm the patient and transported her to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, April 10th At 10:23 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of California Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 55-year-old male in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, April 11th At 9:03 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 62- year-old female exhibiting shock-like symptoms. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with fluid challenge, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, April 12th At 5:13 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of North Fifth Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 50-year-old male experiencing severe head pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measure on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and a stroke assessment. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, April 13th At 5:42 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one occupant trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator. Fire personnel made contact with the occupant and determined that the person did not need medical attention. Fire crews made access to the elevator room and reset the system. Upon reset, the elevator began functioning normal and the occupant was able to exit the elevator without incident. Volunteer Activity During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 128 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 391 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
