Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report during the week of April 21 – April 27, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 21 – April 27, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, April 21

At 5:36 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1400 block of South Tenth Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 97-year-old female patient complaining of respiratory distress. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including IV therapy, respiratory medications and electrocardiogram. Patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Monday, April 22


At 7:12 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 105 with Monrovia Engine 102 and Paramedic Squad 101 responded to a reported traffic collision on Eastbound 210 Freeway east of Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a large truck had collided with a passenger vehicle. Two patients were complaining of injuries. One male patient was experiencing abdominal pain and was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital under trauma center criteria. The second male patient was experiencing arm pain and was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital.

Tuesday, April 23

At 6:26 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105 responded to Santa Anita Race Track parking lot to establish a secure landing zone for a private air ambulance who was transporting a pediatric patient from Arcadia Methodist Hospital to Harbor General UCLA Medical Center. Emergency Room staff requested assistance to transport the patient to a waiting helicopter.

Wednesday, April 24

At 9:39 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 500 block of Coyle Avenue on a medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene to find an 81-year-old female patient who was feeling extremely weak. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures including cardiac monitoring, orthostatic tests, intravenous access, medication therapy, and glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Engine 107 followed up for assistance due to the condition of the patient.

Thursday, April 25

At 2:33 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1300 block of North Oakwood Drive on a medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 48-year-old male patient who had an altered level of consciousness after experiencing a syncopal episode. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures including cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, orthostatic tests, and glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further treatment and evaluation.




Friday, April 26

At 3:52 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a motorcycle vs auto accident. Fire crews arrived to find a 39-year-old male motorcycle rider down in the street complaining of blunt trauma injuries and an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures including full spinal immobilization, IV fluids and oxygen therapy. Patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital.

Saturday, April 27

At 5:22 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to reported animal problem in the 100 block of West Hugo Reid drive. Fire crews arrived to find a swarm of bees had entered a residence through the chimney. The resident found refuge in a bathroom by closing the door and calling 911. A coat and bee hood was given to the resident through the small bathroom window and he was able to escape the house without being stung. The resident was directed to contact a pest control company of his choosing to deal with swarm.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 56 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 311 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
