Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 7 – July 13, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, July 7th
At 1:45 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 along with units from Pasadena Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a reported apartment house fire in the 600 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a dumpster fire next to an apartment building. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire before it spread to a nearby structure. The cause of the fire was accidental.
Monday, July 8th
At 5:28 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of West Campus Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 39-year-old male with leg and ankle pain after falling through a roof. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, pain management medications, oxygen therapy, and application of a splint. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, July 9th
At 7:09 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 1700 block of El Vista Circle. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including CPR, airway management, intravenous therapy, administration of cardiac medications, defibrillation, and oxygen therapy. The patient did not respond to treatment and was pronounced deceased at scene.
Wednesday, July 10th
At 4:36 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of downed power lines in the 1100 block of Highland Oaks Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered a downed cable line across a sidewalk and a backyard. Fire personnel removed the hazard and advised the resident to contact their cable company to replace the damaged equipment.
Thursday, July 11th
At 10:42 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a flooded condition in the 200 block of Vaquero Road. Fire crews arrived to find a broken water line connected to a refrigerator. Fire personnel shut off the valve to the line and used a water vacuum to evacuate the water from the area. The homeowner was advised to contact a plumber to repair the water line.
Friday, July 12th
At 5:52 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a vegetation fire in the 5400 block of Peck Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found two wooden logs smoldering in an open area. Fire crews immediately extinguished and contained the fire with no houses or structures damaged. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
Saturday, July 13th
At 9:59 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 900 block of West Victoria Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 17-year-old female experiencing a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Earthquake Activity
On July 12th, a 4.9 aftershock was reported in the area of Ridgecrest, CA. The tremblor was severe enough for Verdugo Fire Communications to enter into earthquake mode, which involved fire personnel moving apparatus to a safe location, inspecting fire stations, driving in their districts looking for damage, and reporting back to the battalion chief. There were no calls for service during the activiation.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 88 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 392 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
