On Sunday, August 11, 2019, units from Arcadia, Monrovia, San Marino, and South Pasadena Fire Departments took part in a mall evacuation drill at the Westfield Santa Anita Mall. Crews trained with Mall Security on Incident Command and Multi Casualty Incident operations.The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 11 – August 17, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, August 11th At 9:17 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion Chief 105, assisted by Monrovia Fire Department, responded to a smoke inside a structure and elevator rescue call in the 300 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found two occupants trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator but any smoke had already dissipated. Fire crews shut off power to the elevator and the occupants were released without incident. Since both elevators in the building were disabled the building representative was advised to vacate the fourth floor and above as required by City code. Monday, August 12th At 3:45 a.m., Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic accident involving an overturned vehicle at the intersection of El Monte Avenue and West Longden Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a single vehicle overturned with one occupant still inside. The vehicle was stabilized and the Jaws of Life were used to extricate the 45-year-old female driver. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including spinal immobilization, intravenous therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, August 13th At 9:20 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1400 block of South Third Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel arrived to find an elderly male in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, August 14th At 4:46 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of Colorado Place. Fire crews arrived to find a 60-year-old female experiencing general weakness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, August 15th At 8:45 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of East Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly patient exhibiting a psychological problem. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, August 16th At 3:07 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews found four occupants trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator. Fire personnel made access to the elevator by manually releasing the doors. All occupants were removed from the elevator without incident. The elevator was taken out of service by the facility technician until proper repairs could be made. Saturday, August 17th At 2:11 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of Andrea Lane. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly female with hip pain after a mechanical fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy and pain management. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 437 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
