Update March 23 from March 18:
Jewelry store couriers in the retail strip mall at 411 E. Huntington Drive were robbed of $500,000 in jewels while in their car in the parking lot by three hooded men Wednesday afternoon, March 14.
Arcadia Police received a 9-1-1 call at 12:30 p.m. reporting a possible auto burglary by three men that just took place in the parking lot. The men were seen breaking a window of a vehicle but when officers arrived it was determined that a robbery had taken place.
An international jewelry salesman exited a jewelry store carrying a bag of jewelry worth $500,000 but it did not belong to the jeweler. After the victim entered his vehicle, two unknown suspects wearing dark-colored sweatshirts with hoods ran up from behind a vehicle in the parking lot and used an object that resembled a crowbar to smash out the driver’s side window and passenger side windows.
The suspects directed the victim to throw out his keys, after which they took the bag of jewelry out of the vehicle through the window and fled in a silver or white four-door Chevrolet sedan with tinted windows and a possible dealer plate. The victims, who were reported to be jewelry couriers, suffered minor injuries.
Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.
