Despite of 37 degree in the cold early Thursday morning, 248 guests enthusiastically attended the 45th Annual City of Arcadia Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast which was successfully held at the beautifully decorated Community Center on Feb 7th 2019.

The presentation of Colors and National Anthem was the prelude of the Event that lead by the Boy Scott Venturing Crew 1337 of Arcadia.

The theme of breakfast this year was “Traditions of Arcadia”; Mayor Tay explained why he chose such topic; because he wanted to recognize the importance of our community traditions, faith, family values, as well as being neighborly to our fellow Arcadians; three local interdenominational faith- based representatives also briefly shared their thoughts about these values.

This is the second year that Arcadia City partnered with the Chamber of Commerce to include the Annual State of the City Address which was done by the City Manager Dominic Lazaretto; everyone was happy to hear that Residential Burglaries were reduced by 24% compared to 2017.

Former Mayor Jim Helms

Former Mayor Jim Helms’s speech was the highlight of the event; with his extensive knowledge and experiences in the history and traditions of Arcadia, he was the perfect person for the talk; his presentation was entertaining and refreshing; at the end, he reminded all of us to say out loud “We are Americans. We are Arcadians! “That was quite a powerful closing for his speech.

At closing, Mayor Tay thanked many people and groups who helped make this Prayer Breakfast possible; he ended the event with his slogan “let’s be a good neighbor to our neighbors“.

A portion the program proceeds will be donated to the Arcadia Educational Foundation.
